As UFC continues to grow in popularity there are a number of fighters that will always be remembered. Ronda Rousey is one fighter who looked set to be one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time until she was defeated by Holly Holm. The shock loss sent Rousey into free fall and was a lesson to any fighter at the top of their game that they are only ever a loss away from losing it all.
Rousey entered the fight with a record of 12-1, while Holm a former world boxing champion had a record of 10-0. Still, no one gave Holm a chance. Ronda Rousey had been defeating her opponents with such ease using her superior wrestling skills that no one considered Holm a threat. Rousey had even started to dominate fights with her stand up game. So much so, that many thought she could only defeat Holm in boxing. The truth was very different. Holm knocked Rousey out cold in the second round. The defeat was not close at all, it was easy.
Some thought Rosey had been found out, others unlucky. Rousey returned to face Amanda Nunes in December of 2016 and the world waited to find out. This fight went even worse. Nunes knocked Rousey out within 50 seconds of the first round. Rousey’s career was over.
Rousey retired from UFC and was later inducted into the hall of fame. She then went on and continues to have a successful career in wrestling entertainment and movies. While she couldn’t bounce back in the ring she has more than bounced back in life. Rousey has said that it has been a lifelong dream to take part in wrestling entertainment and she now gets to live it every day. While many criticized her loss to Nunes at the time, Amanda Nunes has gone on to show incredible prowess in the ring and she may be one of the best pound for pound fighters UFC has seen. What Rousey achieved in UFC was remarkable, she changed the game for female fighters and the respect they deserve forever.
