We get a full-body workout when we are swimming. It tones up flabby skin, especially if we are losing weight. It strengthens our heart and lungs, strengthens our muscles, and it’s good for our joints unlike jogging which can cause injury to them after time. After years of running our ankles, knees, and feet have had enough unlike swimming because the water holds us up, making our body feel light. There is barely any stress put on our joints, yet at the same time, it strengthens them.
If you are feeling stressed out, anxious, or depressed, try swimming a couple times a week. Swimming reduces our hormones naturally, thus decreasing stress and depression. Our endorphins are known as our feel-good hormones. They are released as we swim. When we no longer feel anxious, our sleep is improved, giving us more energy for the next day.
What do these types of strokes do for us? The breaststroke is the absolute best stroke for a full-body workout. It is a slower stroke that helps strengthen our whole body. It increases our lung capacity, tones our legs and thighs, and builds muscle.
